(Words on screen) ANDY IT/Systems Intern (Speaker: Andy) I thought State Farm oh, insurance. How big could the IT really be? And then I looked around. And there's so many people. And I'm like, OK. I guess the IT side is really big. (Words on screen) KATIE P & C Actuarial Intern (Speaker: Katie) It's really interesting to see that they have us doing real world stuff. I'm actually creating the rates for homeowners in New York, which I didn't think would be something I was doing. (Speaker: Christine) My main project is I'm doing a research project on social recruiting. (Words on screen) SABRINA Strategic Resources Intern (Speaker: Sabrina) Currently we're looking at a big project with housing forecast. (Words on screen) BEN Planning & Analysis Intern (Speaker: Ben) We work with different areas of the company and do cost benefit analysis on projects that they plan to do in the future. (Speaker: Andy) The most valuable thing is figuring out what you want to do. And State Farm gives you so many resources to do that. (Speaker: Christine) I mean, my specific situation of being a mathematics and Hispanic studies major-- I mean, they found a place for me, they can find a place for anyone. [MUSIC PLAYING] (Words on screen) Inside State Farm (Speaker: Katie) Internships can be terrifying as a whole, especially as big a company is this is, and not knowing anybody. But everyone was really friendly. Everything's really organized. So they don't really give you a lot of opportunity to kind of feel like you're getting lost here. (Speaker: Ben) They truly want you to have the best internship experience that you can possibly have, and they often go out of their way to help make that happen. (Speaker: Christine) You never feel like you're just the intern, I guess. You feel like people really want to get to know you and work with you and get your opinion on things. (Speaker: Katie) Yesterday I had a meeting with my manager and the head of our department. And they went over my final presentation with me and spent an hour giving me advice on things I should add or things I should change, which is really helpful, and I really enjoyed it. (Speaker: Ben) All the interns come from many parts of the country-- different schools. And at the beginning of the summer, I hardly knew anyone. But through intern events or hanging out outside of work, I really was able to build strong camaraderie with the other interns and build lasting friendships. [MUSIC PLAYING] (Words on screen) State Farm Opportunities (Speaker: Andy) I just can't get over the fact that I learned so much about what I want to do and learning more about all the different roles. It's just something that I don't think other companies can match. (Speaker: Sabrina) This internship is definitely valuable. It definitely brings a lot for the interns. It puts the intern in a perspective where there's a lot of growth. We get to add value to the company. And there's a lot of learning. There's a lot of networking. You brand yourself at the same time. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone. It's real pay, real work. (Speaker: Ben) The pay is very competitive for other internship experiences like it. And the corporate experience is also one of a kind. I can talk to anyone in the company and feel like I'm a valuable member of this team. (Speaker: Katie) It's nice to see that they kind of just added me as part of the group. And I'm the 12th person in my unit, and I'm just kind of part of the pack now.
