It is either you're going to run, or you're going to fight. It's either you're going to bite down, or you're going to back up. My name is Ronica Jeffrey. They call me Queen. I am a Brooklyn-based fighter. I've been fighting for 14 years. I kind of just fell in love with the sport just by doing it as a workout. And committing to it changed my life. (IMAGE) Multiple scenes of Ronica Jeffrey as she trains and works out are seen. We see her seated on some steps, and then we see her training other fighters. [THUDDING] (Text on screen) Queen trains multiple amateur fighters six times a week. All of her fighters are New York City, State and Metro champions. They have all competed in the National Golden Gloves tournament. (Image) Ronica Jeffrey talking to and training fighters. (Speaker: Ronica Jeffrey) And then turn —turn -- just shorten it up -- ba, ba, ba, ba. Just quick-- now you go hard- - ba, ba, ba, ba -- then go boom, boom, boom, as soon as the person starts to open up. Let's go -- doing the jab. Boxing empowers women to feel strong, and to believe in themselves a little bit more, and just to understand that they can defend theirself. (Text on screen) Queen’s first professional fight was January 31, 2008. (IMAGE) Ronica Jeffrey is seen seated on some steps and then she’s seen walking through the gym. Next, we see signage and a newspaper clipping about her. Then we see her walking down an urban alley, performing boxing moves, and then we see her seated on the steps again. (Speaker: Ronica Jeffrey) When I started boxing as a professional, I dreamed of just holding a belt. I'm 15 and 1 as a professional. And I'm a six-time belt holder. Women in boxing -- like, we still trying to prove what women can do. (Speaker: Ronica Jeffrey) We work as hard as the men. We put in the time. We put in the sacrifice. We cry. We bleed. We do everything. We just don't have the same amount of support. So a lot of it is coming from our own pockets. [MUSIC PLAYING] (IMAGE) We see Ronica Jeffrey walking into a boxing storefront, and then we see her boxing. Next, we see her seated on some steps, and then practicing boxing moves. (Text on screen) She’s also held the NABF, WBC Silver, IBF, WBU, and WIBA, and the WBC titles in the featherweight class. (Speaker: Ronica Jeffrey) They call me Queen because when I'm in the ring, kind of like, that's my throne -- just me really understanding myself and who I am. I realize that I'm stronger than what I may think sometimes. But me knowing that and trying to put that into other people, you got to keep on pushing. You got to keep on going. It doesn't matter if you fall. It's getting back up and finishing and doing what you want to do. [MUSIC PLAYING] (IMAGE) An illustration of a woman with hair that looks like a colorful cloud is seen. The words “Color Full Lives” are printed across the hair. (Text on screen) #LiveColorFull Listen and subscribe today! Apple Podcasts logo Spotify logo Soundcloud logo State Farm logo
