Close ups of business signs are shown. (Speaker: Angela Yee) I know growing up in Brooklyn, all we had where I grew up was like you know the supermarket was just really dumpy, and the lights were falling down and the food was all expired. You know we grew up with the chicken spots and the pizza places, and the hot dog stands, and the liquor stores and all of that. (Image) Angela Yee walks down streets of Brooklyn. (Speaker: Angela Yee) So, I do like the fact that certain things are being brought into these neighborhoods, but I really think that it's important for us to focus on being the people that are bringing those things into the neighborhood. (Speaker: Angela Yee) I'm Angela Yee, and most people know me as one of the hosts on “The Breakfast Club,” but I also opened up Juices for Life, which is a juice bar in Brooklyn, and I did that a year and a half ago. (Image) Angela Yee walks into Juices for Life. Camera pans inside of store which consists of a long, narrow space. Stools line the right wall and a glass counter filled with fresh ingredients and kitchen space lines the left. (Text on Screen) Juices for Life is open 7 days a week (Speaker: Angela Yee) Opening this juice bar, even if it didn't make any money, was kind of like me giving back. Instead of me taking money and just donating it, it was actually opening a brick and mortar, something that I could see the results. (Image) Angela Yee at Juices for life reaches inside a cooler filled with fresh fruit and pulls out a pineapple. We then see her slicing the pineapple on the counter into chunks then tossing the fruit into an industrial juicer. Close up of apples in the cooler is then seen. Angela then pours juice collect from juicer into a clear plastic cup, seals it with a lid and hands it over the counter to a customer. (Text on Screen) Berry Blast Apple Strawberry Blueberry Blackberry Banana (Speaker: Angela Yee) I saw Styles P and Jadakiss open their juice bar. I saw them talking about it, and I was like, you know what instead of me trying to do something like this on my own, I would love to partner up with somebody that already has an existing business and can help me out. (Image) Close of up Liquor Store interior. Then we see an older man talking to an Angela Yee from Juices for Life. Angela is holding a tray of various mixed juices and handing out samples to people in the community. (Speaker: Older Man on Street) We got a liquor store on every corner, every corner. But you know what though? You got kids with asthma, you got kids stomach problems, you got this and that. You know. And Juice for Life. Oh man. We need this so bad. We need a turnaround. (Image) We see the outside of Juices for Life again, then an inside mural on the wall which consists of large paintings of various fruits: banana, pineapple, watermelon. (Text pm Screen) GucciGhost a.k.a. Trevor Andrew has collaborated with Gucci, Reebok and 2 Chainz (Image) We see words written on a window: Always Fresh. Then image switches to Angela handing out small samples to customers inside store. Image switches again to see more juices being prepared and mixed by an employee in the store. (Speaker: Angela Yee) I've had people come in and tell me, you know my whole life I've never had vegetables and I've never tried this, and this is great for me. I feel so much better. I've had people who lost weight. One man lost 30 pounds you know in the first few months that we opened. Because he was coming in every single day and getting a juice. And he was getting a juice for another woman who lived in his building who has cancer. And he was like, it was what she looks forward to every day was him bringing her a juice. (Image) Close up of subway, then back to Angela Yee walking down a street in Brooklyn. [MUSIC PLAYING] (Speaker: Angela Yee) Even if the juice bar, we end up just breaking even or not making any money, it's more important to me that people can say, “Oh my God your juice bar changed my life.” (Image) State Farm® logo Color Full Lives logo (Text on Screen) Color Full Lives Podcast Hosted by Angele Yee & Aminatou Sow Tune in to episode 2 on February 14th
