Adjusting the Steering Wheel | Steer Clear | State Farm® [MUSIC PLAYING] (Text on screen) Adjust the Steering Wheel (IMAGE) An animated car is seen driving on an animated roadway. The inside of the car is seen with a driver inside. The steering wheel tilts up and down, with the shoulder height of the driver indicated. Then the steering wheel is seen moving forward and backward. The space of ten inches between the chest and wheel is indicated. The driver’s correct arm position is indicated. (Announcer: Male voice) Adjust the steering wheel so the top of the wheel is no higher than the top of your shoulders. Then, move the steering wheel up or down and closer or further back until you have a comfortable hold. The steering wheel should be at least ten inches from your chest. Your arms should be in a relaxed position. (IMAGE) Just the image of the steering wheel is shown. The instrument panel is highlighted, and is shown to be unobstructed by the wheel. The animation then portrays the surroundings outside the car, including buildings and trees. The “9” and “3” positions for hands are indicated. (Text on screen) Always keep two hands on the wheel. (Announcer: Male voice) Also, be sure the steering wheel is not obstructing your view of the instrument panel. You need to be able to glance comfortably between the dashboard and the road. Make sure you have your hands at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, and always keep two hands on the wheel for better control of the car.
