State Farm® brings hope to Joplin, Missouri (Image: Female State Farm claims employee driving. Images then shown of all the damages in Joplin, Missouri, from the tornado) (Speaker: Female State Farm claims employee) It just happened. They had a little bit of a warning, initially. And then they thought it was going to be OK. And the sirens went off again, and they only a had a few minutes. (Speaker: Female State Farm claims employee) I don't know if you can really describe what it initially looked like in those first few days. I've never seen anything like it. You don't know what you're going to run into. You could have a house that's completely gone. And then you could have a house where you've got some siding damage, some window damage. (Speaker: Male State Farm claims employee) When we got here, what we did was a little different from our normal storm. When we've had severity one's-- the total losses-- generally, we go, we set up the appointment immediately. We call on them, set them up, and getting out there as soon as we can. (Speaker: Male State Farm claims employee) Here, we didn't call them right away. We left that to our centralized partners to contact and let them know that we're actually going out inspecting your property, while you're not there. We're going to be using our measurements that we had from aerial measurements from a service that we use that will show what the measurements of the perimeter were, so we can determine what the square footage is. (Speaker: Male State Farm claims employee) And then we would just come out here, photograph the damage, document what we could. And we would do a phone interview with the customer later to determine what the finishes were like. What normally would take us a month to do, about 700 total losses, we did in about 10 days. We've never done anything like this before. (Image: A crane filling a large dumpster with debris. The outside of a school building with a “Hope High School” sign up.) (Speaker: Female State Farm claims employee) It seems as though this community came together and other communities came from outside of this community to pitch in. Even on an average day, if I went to go fill up at the gas station or go to the grocery store, sometimes people will just stop you and say thank you. (Speaker: Male State Farm claims employee) From the top down, from Ed Rust all the way down, they talk about remarkable customer experience. And that's what we're supposed to be trying to portray as a company. And I think we did that here. We've done our very best in a difficult situation.
