Misty's Story | Your Month In Money | State Farm® (Music plays) (IMAGE) An aerial view of a town is seen. Next, we see a series of scenes of a small town in Texas and old family snapshots of a woman later identified as Misty. We see her yearbook photo and a paycheck, and a hand placing money in a piggy bank. Next, we see her college graduation photo, a mortarboard flying through the air, and her sitting at a desk doing paperwork. (Text on screen) State Farm presents Your Month in Money (Speaker: Misty) I'm originally from a little country town in the west part of Texas. When I was 16, I got a really good job paying something like $8.30 an hour. I saved up for college, graduated with a business degree, and became a paralegal. (IMAGE) We see a garage door go up to show a white car, and then we see Misty and her son riding in that car. Next, we see take-out Chinese food, crab legs, Misty getting a manicure and Misty driving. Next, we see a house, and then we see Misty’s children interacting. After that, we again see Misty and her son in the car, and then an aerial view of their car. Then we see them in a store parking lot. (Speaker: Misty) When I started making a little bit more money, I felt like, you know what? You deserve all of this. You deserve crab legs. You work hard. You deserve to get your nails done. My main goal is to have a house. My son is the one who said, "Didn't you grow up in a house?" And I have to let him know that mama's finances won't allow for a house right now. (IMAGE) We see Misty and her son in a restaurant together. Then we see a hand using a cash register. A bowl of alphabet soup spells out “groceries” in a spoon. Then we see multiple gas cans and a tollway sign. Next, we see Misty and her children eating take-out in their living room, and then we see Misty looking through children’s clothing. Then we see Misty looking outside the balcony of her apartment. (Speaker: Misty) The first of the month is difficult. It's like, I say I want to save, so I put money in there to save. But I end up pulling that same money back out to use it anyway. I haven't felt caught up where I'm good. It's been a long time. (Text on screen) To help Misty find new ways to save, State Farm looked at her monthly expenses a little differently. (IMAGE) Displays of different items are organized in an empty store. We see many bottles of water, spa towels, cosmetics, tires, workout items and more. (Speaker: Misty) This is what I spend my money on? Oh my goodness. Am I allowed to touch? If only I used my gym membership. Chips. Lord knows I go through a ton of chips. Let me see my life. (IMAGE) Another woman, later identified as State Farm agent Lakisha Gaines, enters. (Speaker: Lakisha Gaines) Hi, Misty. (Speaker: Misty) Hi. (Speaker: Lakisha Gaines) I'm Lakisha Gaines, a State Farm agent. This is your month in money. (Speaker: Misty) I see. (Speaker: Lakisha Gaines) You and I are going to go on a journey to get you closer toward buying a house. How does that sound? (Speaker: Misty) I would have never in a million years thought about any of this. (Speaker: Lakisha Gaines) So let's start today. Where do you want to begin? (Text on screen) Starting today, Misty is on her way to reaching her financial goals. (Speaker: Misty) Oh, we can start at all of these places. I'm ready.
